Studying God's Word

Studying God's WordStudying the Word of God is not coming at it with a desire to find what one wants to be there. It is approaching the Scriptures with as little pre-suppositions as possible, allowing the Bible to speak for itself. It is our duty to listen and to pay attention to what is being said and conveyed. Our personal feelings and opinions must be subjected to the truth of Scripture—not elevated above it.

In Studying God's Word, it is quite evident that Timothy Klaver has an immense passion for the Word of God and especially for the truth of God's Word. Informing Christians that they should not believe something simply because he has said it, or someone else has said it, such as one's Pastor, regardless of qualifications, Timothy encourages Christians to be like the noble Bereans, who "searched the Scriptures daily" to see if the things the Apostle Paul taught them were true, and to "Study . . . rightly dividing the word of truth," regardless of how one was raised, what one was taught, or what one presently believes.

Timothy lays out three simple and extremely helpful rules for studying the Word of God, which if employed should help reduce errors in one's interpretation.
     1. Context, context, context!
     2. Compare Scripture with Scripture!
     3. Wrestle with and submit to what the text actually says, and conform your beliefs accordingly.
